“What interests me is colour's ability to evoke memories, emotions and worlds. My colour choices change according to the seasons, if I travel, and my state of mind. I strive to express a complex spectrum of thoughts and feelings with sensitively and reflection, using colour combinations informed by my sensory experiences."
Natalie Legere is a multidisciplinary artist from Moncton, NB, She earned a B.A. from the University of Moncton in 2008. She was a long-time abstract painter, and made a change towards oil representational painting in 2020, shortly after the birth of her daughter. She has had many teacher's and mentors to help her during this period, including a 2 year mentorship with Dustin Neece (a former student of Odd Nerdrum's), New England Picture Painters, Colourists, and Contemporary Impressionists. Her journey started by receiving a Grant from the Province of New-Brunswick to create videos during the Pandemic, she painted studies of the Wolastoq River on location, which were later exhibited at Galerie Sans Nom, Moncton, NB.
Légère created from 2020 to 2024, 3 series of Owl paintings, including all the species of Turtle Island, which were exhibited at the Saint John Arts Center, Saint-John, NB, in 2024. She is currently exhibiting a series of daily self-portraits: Me by Myself, at Galerie 12, Moncton, NB.
Légère enjoys returning to a location to work on a painting or to do touch ups, her practice currently centres on working from direct observation, painting still-life, portraits, landscapes, or interior scenes. She lives and works in Woodstock First Nations, NB.
