"With my paintings, I want to both study and share what I consider to be poetic beauty in the world. Meaningful experiences that captivate me. Sunsets, groves, vistas, architecture, people, rivers and oceans. As I sit down to study and observe my subjects, form, colour, and the interconnectedness of life reveal themselves to me. It is a thrill to experience, and a privilege to share it with you. "

One of my practices is a simple still-life with a single item at the center. I prefer to use natural items and find there is an analytical quality in my treatment of the subject. If the object is not one found in nature, it may have deep symbolism to me, I find those types of subjects are rewarding to spend time drawing or painting.

What is fun about landscapes is that there is a lot going on. It's important to master the values and colour temperatures in relationship with each other throughout the composition. Through painting the ecosystem, a feeling for the "spirit of the place", develops within myself. I get to know the actors and their roles, I feel that I know them more intimately.

Human Beings are one of the most interesting subjects for me, whether it be in a multifigure composition or a head shot. I try to bring a human perspective to my subjects, so painting people allows for that complexity better than any other subject. As humans, we are drawn to human figures, and I am curious about inner as well as outer worlds.
