"What I've always wanted to convey is the sensory experiences that come with travelling. This means the feeling of a hot, humid sunset upon arrival, the colourful flowers in nature, the beautiful architecture, the vistas... With painting, I sit down with these things and spend time with them. As I paint and observe them, I get to share a period of time with them and that process is like a conversation in which details, colours, and the intimate world of that place or thing unveils itself to me a little. This is my privilege to experience and share with you. "

One of my practices is a simple still-life with a single item at the center. I prefer to use natural items and find there is an analytical quality in my treatment of the subject. If the object is not one found in nature, it may have deep symbolism to me, I find those types of subjects are rewarding to spend time drawing or painting, and their meaning are revealed as I work..

What is fun about landscapes is that there is a lot going on. It's important to master the values and colour temperatures in relationship with each other throughout the composition. Through painting the ecosystem, a spirit of the place, is developed. I get to know the actors and their role, I feel that I know them more intimately as individuals.

Human Beings are one of the most interesting subjects for me, whether it be in a multifigure composition or a head shot. I try to bring a human perspective to my subjects, so painting people allows for that complexity better than any other subject. As humans, we are drawn to human figures, and are curious about their inner and outer worlds.
